Hornettes Conclude Regular Season

The Hornettes kicked off their final week of regular season action Tuesday when they took on the Lady Red Devils of Murphysboro.

The Hornettes continued their winning ways, taking the match in two sets, 25-18 and 25-15. It was an even attack at the net as Nashville had eight different players with kills.

Abby Maschoff, Abby Wesselman, Addi Gale, Delaney Varel, Elise Spencer, Hazel Konkel, and Sydney Schnitker all contributed in the kill category. Konkel led the team with four. Grabowski had a team leading six assists, while Wesselman was credited with 14 kills.

Sydney Schnitker was close behind, ending up with 12 kills, respectively. The JV lost their first set 26-24 before coming back to take the next two 25-17 and 15-12. The freshman won in two, 25-20 and 25-12. The Hornettes played in the last regular season match of the year on Thursday when they traveled north to take on the Lady Knights of Mater Dei. Mater Dei took the match in a quick two sets, 25-13 and 25-10.

“We didn’t control the ball, we didn’t take their serve away, we weren’t able to get the ball of our serve receives and couldn’t get the good swings that we wanted,” Coach Konkel said.

Delaney Varel led the Hornettes with three kills, while Hazel Konkel finished with two. Elise Spencer, Sydney Schnitker, Abby Maschoff, Addi Gale, and Taylor Rapp all contributed with one a piece.

Abby Wesselman led the team with 12 digs, while Emily Schnitker led in assists with five. The Hornets finished the season with a conference record of 9-1 and an overall record of 28-7.
