The Hornets will face Sterling Newman Catholic High School for the 2A crown in Dekalb 1 pm Friday afternoon. After their respective wins on Saturday both teams have matching 12-1 records. The Comets have won five state titles since 1990 along with 27 playoff appearances. They are coming off a 21-7 road victory over Minonck.
“I think they’re more of a wing team, and a downhill running team, so that’s something to prepare for, but it’s nothing we haven’t seen. They’re going to be well coached and a quality opponent, you’re playing in the state championship game, so out kids are going to be up and ready to play,” Head Coach Stephen Kozuzsek said.
For Nashville it is important to continue to play relaxed, even on the biggest of stages.
“I think our kids have handled this well, if they are stressed out, they have not shown it,” Kozuzsek said.
Coach explained even though they are playing in the state championship game, their mindset will remain the same.
“Our whole goal since round one is play for next weekend, play for next weekend, and that’s what they’ve done, and now we have a shot at it,” Kozuzsek said.
