Hornettes Fall At Carterville, JV Wins

The Hornettes were back in action this week as they play in their final two games before the Mascoutah Holiday Tournament. After playing three home games last week, they would hit the road to take on the Lady Lions of Carterville. The first quarter saw a tightly contested contest. After one, the Hornettes were up against the slightest of deficits as they trailed 13-12.
The Hornettes were outscored 11-3 in the second quarter, and the lead swelled to 24-15 at the half. Nashville was able to get Lady Lion lead back to within ten after the third. They would head into the fourth quarter trailing 33-25. The Hornettes were able to rally in the final period, as they outscored Carterville 13-8. The fourth quarter rally would fall just short, and the Hornettes winning streak ended at six at the hands of a 41-38 loss.
Sabrina Kollbaum finished with a team leading 14 points along with two triples. Alyssa Cole also broke into double figures with 12, hitting two from behind the arc as well. Rylee Luechtefeld finished with nine, and Sydney Schnitker bucketed three points herself. The loss moves the Hornettes to 9-2 on the season. The JV squad also played at Carterville. The Hornettes grabbed an early lead, and they were able to carry a 12-10 lead to the midway point. In the third period, Nashville equaled their amount of points scored in the first half which allowed them to take a 24-12 lead into the final quarter. In an impressive performance on the defensive end, the Hornettes were able to secure a victory by a score of 34-21.
The scoring came from several sources. Cheyenne Boester led all of them with eight. Halle Rueter added seven, Korbi Rhine finished with five, Colleen Jahnke had four, Emma Van Hise threw in three, and Talanie Kozuszek, Ashley Frazier, and Hope Liszewski all finished the contest with two.
