Breaking News: Okawville Resident Dies In House Fire

An Okawville resident has been pronounced dead on Thursday, January 2, after emergency personnel were dispatched to a house fire on Covington Road in rural Okawville.

According to Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger: “At 9:12 a.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2020, our office was dispatched to the scene of a fatal house fire at 16707 Covington Road rural Okawville. Firefighters from Addieville and Okawville were called to this residence at 4:14 a.m. for a fully involved house fire. After the fire was put out and crews were assessing the scene, the body of the homeowner was found. Lynnette Cary, 56 of this residence was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:30 a.m. by Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger. Several dogs also perished in the fire. An autopsy will be conducted in O’Fallon to help determine cause and manner of death. Addieville and Okawville Fire Departments along with the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and Ambulance Service all responded to the scene. The death continues to be investigated by the Illinois Fire Marshall’s office along with the Washington County Coroner.
