Catherine “Kitty” Schubert
Catherine “Kitty” Mary Schubert, age 95, of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 8:33 p.m. in Friendship Manor, Nashville, IL.
Catherine was born on April 9, 1924 in Sheridan, AR, a daughter to David and Frances (Skorcz) Liszewski. On May 21st, 1945, she married Bernard Schubert in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, St. Louis, MO and he preceded her in death on October 21, 2016 after 71 years of marriage. In her lifetime she and her husband owned and operated the DuBois Blacktop Tavern in the mid50’s, the Country Kitchen Truck Stop along IL 127, north of Pinckneyville in the 60s. Catherine worked as a beautician for a number of years, having owned beauty shops in Pinckneyville and Tamaroa, IL. Catherine went back to school and graduated as a License Practical Nurse, in the 70s having worked at Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Nashville and at the Pinckneyville Community Hospital. She was a member of St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL and active in the Catholic Daughters. Catherine always loved spending time with and taking care of her family. In addition to spending time with her family, she and Bernard enjoyed attending Polka Dances with a number of their friends and family.
Survivors include her four sons, John (Sheila) Schubert of Nashville, IL, Bernard James (Oralia “LaLa”) Schubert of Belleville, IL, David Joseph (Kathy) Schubert of Gillette, WY and Mark (Kerry) Schubert of New Philadelphia, OH; a daughter, Cathy (Ralph) Chapman of Pinckneyville, IL; a brother-in-law, Dr. William Lesko; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard Schubert; a grandson, Chad Willard Schubert; and three sisters, Bertha Kozuszek, Barbara Lesko and Helen Sherman.
Funeral services will be held at St. Bruno Catholic Church, Pinckneyville, IL on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Augustine Ibezimako officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery, Todd’s Mill, IL.
Visitation will be at Pyatt Funeral Home, Pinckneyville, IL on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday morning at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. with the rosary being recited at 9:00 a.m.
