Mrs. Marie (Novak) Preis, a lifelong resident of Nashville, IL, departed this life at the Clinton Manor in New Baden, IL, where she resided for the last ten years, on Friday, February 21, 2020 at 6:20 AM. She had attained the age of 95 years, 4 months and 21 days.
Mrs. Preis was born on September 30, 1924 in Ashley, IL, the daughter of Walter and Rose (Piechnik) Novak. She was united in marriage to Herman J. Preis on May 31, 1943 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Radom, IL and he preceded her in death on February 19, 2004. They had 60+ years together.
Marie was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church in Nashville where she was a past president of the Altar Sodality and helped prepare the funeral luncheons and belonged to the quilting group. Marie was also a member of the Belleville Diocesan Council of Catholic Women and a supporting member of the Newman Center. She had a great love for the church and helped whenever she could including cleaning and cooking for the pastors. Marie loved to dance and was a member of the St. Louis Metro Polka Club. They traveled to many polka festivals and even took a polka cruise. She and Herman loved to travel; especially to visit with family scattered across the country. She also loved to garden, fish, play bingo and make homemade ice cream. They loved to have family gatherings for holidays, birthdays, anniversaries and whenever she could get everyone together.
Left to mourn her passing is her daughter Alberta “Birdie” Karl of Collinsville, IL; son, LeRoy Preis and wife Susan of Okawville, IL; brother, Walter Novak and wife Pat of Columbia, IL; sister-in-law, Martha Novak of Elephant Butte, New Mexico; six grandchildren, Michael “Kaz” Karl, Jr. and Nichole, Ronald Karl and wife Amy, Trina Vetter and husband Shawn, Jennifer Preis and friend Kelly Norwood, Jeffrey Preis and wife Deanna and Rebecca Galle and husband Derek; 10 great-grandchildren, Corwin, Evander and Erik Karl, Nicolas and Alexis Vetter, Davin and Clayton Galle, Myla Preis, Max Karl and Evelyn Norwood; numerous loved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Joan Someske; four sisters, Lorraine McNamara, Adeline Novak, Bernice Schaefer and Rita Flure; four brothers, Dominick, Albert, Clemens and Thomas Novak; three brother-in-laws, Ed, Burt and Ray; four sister-in-laws, Mary, Florence, Dorothy and Margaret.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church in Nashville, IL on Tuesday February 25, 2020 at 10 AM with Fr. Andy Knopik officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Nashville, IL on Monday from 5 PM until 8 PM and on Tuesday from 7:30 AM until 9:30 AM.
The rosary will be recited at the Campagna Funeral Home on Monday at 7:30 PM.
Should friends desire, mass offerings or memorials can be made to the St. Ann Altar Sodality or St. Ann School and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
