Centralia Woman Killed In Interstate Accident

A 53-year-old Centralia woman has died following a two-vehicle traffic accident on Interstate 64 in Washington County on Thursday, March 19.

According to Coroner Mark Styninger, his office was dispatched to the 58 mile marker at 8:44 p.m. Lynette Lee was traveling westbound in a Chevrolet at a high rate of speed. The Chevy then struck the rear of a moving tanker truck.

Lee’s vehicle then flipped several times after the impact, and she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, which caused her to be ejected from the car. She was pronounced dead on the scene at 9:04 p.m. by Styninger, the release said.

The Washington County Ambulance Service, Washington County’s Sheriff Department, Nashville Fire Department and the Illinois State Police also responded. The accident continues to be investigated by the ISP.

Styninger said no further information will be released at this time.
