A Carlyle man was arrested early Monday morning, May 11, after eluding police with a stolen car through two counties and crashing in Hoyleton, authorities say.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said deputies had attempted to conduct a traffic stop at 2:30 a.m. on a blue 2010 Chevy vehicle at 42nd Street and Richview Road in Mt. Vernon, when the vehicle fled from the initiating officers. It traveled westbound on Richview Road.
The driver avoided stop sticks that had been placed on near Richview Road and Woodlawn Lane.
The pursuit continued through Washington County and ended when the vehicle lost control. It ran off the road and rolled near the intersection of Illinois Route 177 and Ash Road in Hoyleton.
After the accident, it was determined that the vehicle was stolen from Monmouth, IL.
Driver Jakob S. Jones, 28, of Carlyle was taken to Crossroads Hospital for evaluation and then released into custody. He was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated fleeing/attempting to elude, driving with a revoked license and reckless driving.
