Summer Auctions Change For This Year As 4-H Shows Are Going Virtual

The Washington County 4-H Auction Committee announced on Friday afternoon that the face-to-face judging auction has been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“We regretfully send this letter to inform you that we will NOT be hosting the Washington County 4-H Auction this year due to the COVID-19 restrictions,” the committee said in a statement. “The safety of our children, their family, and our prospective buyers are a top priority. The University of Illinois 4-H Extension has decided to cancel all face to face judging and to have a virtual format show this year. The 4-H members will be turning in video clips and pictures of their project.”

The auction is held the same week as the Washington County Fair. The board announced earlier this month that it was also nixing its 76th annual event.
