Water on the roadway is believed to be the cause of a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 64 in Washington County Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Illinois State Police, Cindy Hill, 62, of Chatham was traveling east on Interstate 64 near milepost 38.5 at 12:10 p.m. when her 2018 white Kia sedan began to hydroplane on waters caused by the heavy rains recently. Hill started to lose control and left the roadway to the right, striking a bridge support and overturning on the right shoulder.
Hill was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Police said she was cited for improper lane usage.
