IHSA Makes Fall Sports Decision
On Wednesday, July 29th, the IHSA released an update on the status sports for the 2020-2021 school year. The sports were divided into three risk categories; lower, medium, and high. Due to being in the lower risk category, boys and girls golf will continue as scheduled for this fall. Other sports falling into the lower risk category were cross country as well as swimming. The fall sports season will begin on August 10th and will conclude on October 17th. Football and volleyball have been moved to the spring. Their respective seasons are scheduled to begin February 15th, and the season will end on May 1st. Track, baseball, and softball have been pushed back until the summer of 2021. They will begin May 3rd and run through June 26th. Basketball, cheerleading, and dance seasons are set to take place in the winter beginning November 16th and conclude on February 13th.
In a release on the IHSA’’s official Twitter account, Executive Director Craig Anderson had this to say. “This plan, like nearly every aspect of our current lives remains fluid. Changes may come, and if they do, we will be agile while putting students first. It was important that we provide a framework today for our student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and officials to begin preparing for 2020-2021 school year.”
