Two Washington County fire protection districts were awarded life-saving grain rescue tubes to help prevent grain bin accidents in the community. Addieville and Hoyleton Fire Protection Districts were recently given the equipment.

Grain bin entrapments account for dozens of fatalities each year and grain bin deaths have surged in 2019 and 2020 due to the wet harvest. The grain rescue tube was awarded through Nationwide’s Grain Bin Safety campaign, through which the insurer has awarded 152 rural fire departments with grain rescue tubes and training since 2014.
