The Nashville Community High School Hornette season went into full swing last week and came back with a first place finish at the Nashville Invitational Tournament on Thursday, August 20.
The Hornettes ended the tournament with an overall score of 188.
Ryan Stegman led Nashville with a score on the day of 44, followed by Brooklyne Luessenheide with 45. Rounding out the top four for the Hornettes were Grace Ruehl with 47 and Faith Frerker with a 52. Medals were given to the top scorers, and the Hornettes took home the bulk of the gold from the tournament.
Other teams at the NIT included the Pinckneyville Lady Panthers (218), Benton Lady Rangers (219), Carterville Lady Lions (241), Murphysboro (243) and Sparta. The leaders on each opposing team were Benton’s Alyssa Dawson with a 42, the top score of the day; Pinckneyville’s Maddy Lynch (52); Murphysboro’s Clare Gahagan (53); and Carterville’s Bailey West (56). Sydney Rheinecker was Sparta’s lone golfer during the tournament, and she scored a 64.
The Hornettes are back in action this week with a match in Pinckneyville on Wednesday, August 26, and a home match on Wednesday, September 2, against Okawville, Christ Our Rock, Freeburg and Chester. Both matches begin at 4 p.m.
