PETER “PETE” S. SMALLEY

Mr. Peter “Pete” S. Smalley of Woodlawn, IL, departed this life at SSM Health/Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 10:55 AM.  He had attained the age of 106 years, 10 months and 23 days.

Pete was born on October 17, 1913 at Ashley, IL, the son of Joseph and Fronia (Pierjok) Smalley.  He was united in marriage to LaVerne Shipman on May 5, 1940 in Radom, IL and she preceded him in death on March 1, 2003.

Pete worked for many years for the City of Mt. Vernon Street Department.  He was a member of the St. Michael Catholic Church in Radom, IL and he enjoyed telling jokes, hunting, fishing and gardening.

Left to mourn his passing is his three daughters, Pat “Patty” Yates and her husband Don of Woodlawn, IL, Mercedes “Karen” Swambar and husband Jim of Antioch, IL and Dolores “Baby Girl” Brashear and husband Jim of Katy, TX; six grandchildren, Chet (Tricia) Tussey, Teresa (Dan) Morgan, Deborah (Bill) Dixon, Christopher (Becky) Swambar, Jeffrey (Kristi) Brashear and Kevin Brashear; seven great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, Mike, Anthony and Joseph and two sisters, Clara Smolik and Annie Smalley.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St. Michael Catholic Church in Radom, IL on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at 10 AM with Fr. Oliver Nwachukwu officiating.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Ashley, IL on Monday from 5 PM until 7 PM and on Tuesday from 7:30 AM until 9:30 AM.

Should friends desire, mass offerings or memorials can be made to the St. Michael Catholic Church or St. Michael Catholic Cemetery and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
