Leo T. Witges, 88, of Scheller, passed away at 11:30 A.M., Sunday, January 10, 2021 at the Countryside Residential Living Center in Mt. Vernon, IL.
Leo had been a farmer. He was a member of St. Barbara Catholic Church in Scheller. Leo was a United States Army veteran. He was a member of Amvets Post 148 Waltonville.
He was born August 16, 1932 at Scheller, IL, the son of Theodore and Verna (Klingler) Witges.
He married Helen Kujawa on July 11, 1956 at Radom, IL and she preceded him in death on August 22, 2019.
He is survived by five children – Gerald Witges and wife Rose of Teutopolis, IL, Clarence Witges and wife Bonnie of Scheller, Steven Witges and wife Jackie of Effingham, Karen Pelker and husband Walt of Scheller, and Kevin Witges and wife Julia of Scheller, one sister-in-law – Hilda Witges of Scheller, fourteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son – David Witges, three brothers – Leonard Witges, Richard Witges and Charles Witges, and three sisters – Alice Radake, Hilda Kowalski, and Dorothy McKay.
Private family Mass will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 13, 2021 at the St. Barbara Catholic Church in Scheller with Fr. Nick Junker officiating.
Friends may call from 11 A.M. until 1 P.M., Wednesday at the Searby Funeral Home in Tamaroa.
Please use social distancing guidelines. Everyone in attendance is required to wear a mask.
Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Mt. Vernon American Legion Post.
Burial will be in the St. Barbara Cemetery at Scheller, IL.
Friends may make memorials to the St. Barbara Cemetery or Countryside Residential Living Center and will be accepted at the funeral home.
