Nashville’s varsity boys basketball team is 8-0 after three easy wins last week. Tuesday the Hornets knocked off conference rival DuQuoin by a score of 65-39. Nashville held a comfortable lead of 12 points at halftime then put the game out of reach when they outscored the Indians by 10 in the third period.
Buzz Ritzel had a good night for Nashville as he scored 24 points. Two other Hornets finished in double figures as Nolan Heggemeir had 14 and Isaac Turner had 13. Other scorers for Nashville were Jaxon Goforth with six, Kolten Gajewski with four and Carter Schoenherr and Saxton Hoepker with two each.
Friday night’s action saw Nashville completely dominate Anna-Jonesboro for another conference victory. The Hornets jumped out to an 11-0 lead after the first quarter and never looked back on their way to a 46-19 win.
Turner was the leading scorer with 17 points, Goforth had 10, Heggemeier had eight, Ritzel scored five, Schoenherr put in four and Hoepker added two.
Saturday’s home game against Frankfort was another one-sided contest. The Redbirds held a 5-3 lead in the opening moments until the Hornets went on a 13-0 run to take control. Nashville’s defense really shut down Frankfort in the second half as they could only manage four points in each of the last two quarters. The final score was Nashville 61 Frankfort 25.
Ritzel scored 16 points, including nine in one stretch of the second quarter to lead the offensive attack. Turner had 13, Goforth scored 10, Hoepker had eight, Gajewski scored seven, Heggemeier had five and Radyn Schwartzkopf added two. Hoepker and Goforth were the leading rebounders for Nashville.
