Nashville’s girls basketball team started their week with a 59-43 win over Sparta on Monday night. Nashville dominated the first half and led 31-12 by halftime. The Lady Bulldogs did stage a bit of a rally by outscoring the Hornettes by six in the third quarter, but Nashville was able to put the game away in the fourth.
Three players finished in double figures for Nashville. Alyssa Cole led with 24 points, Emily Schnitker had 17 and Halle Rueter scored 12. Talanie Kozuszek added three points, Jordan Donato had two and Ashlyn Frazier had one.
Thursday night’s action saw Nashville fall to Carterville in a close contest. Carterville gradually built a seven-point lead by outscoring Nashville in each of the first three quarters. The Hornettes outscored Carterville 12-9 in the fourth but the Lady Lions prevailed by a score of 37-33.
Cole was Nashville’s leading scorer with 20 points, Donato had seven and Schnitker and Daphne Kollbaum added three each.
Saturday’s road game in Breese saw Nashville come away with a 44-29 win over Mater Dei. After a tight first quarter the Hornettes held the Knights to only two points in the second quarter and took a 25-13 lead. Both teams battled from start to finish in a contest that was a little rough at times and featured many fouls and turnovers. Cole was the leading scorer with 24 points, which included 11 free throws. Rueter hit three shots from three-point range to finish with nine points, Schnitker and Baylie Newman scored five points each and Donato added one.
