The Hornets opened their football season with a home game against Sparta on Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs were no match for Nashville, who took control of the contest from the very beginning and shut out Sparta 64-0.
Nashville scored touchdowns on each of their first three possessions and also recovered a Sparta fumble for another touchdown, making the score 28-0 after one quarter. The Hornets came up with 28 more points in the second quarter and went into halftime leading 56-0. After a scoreless third quarter, the Hornets tacked on one more touchdown and a two-point conversion for the final margin of victory.
Quarterback Cole Malawy threw three touchdown passes and finished with 170 total yards. His top receivers were Jaxon Goforth with 63 yards and one touchdown, Isaac Turner with 33 yards and one touchdown and Nick Miller with 30 yards and one touchdown.
Top rushers for the Hornets included Connor Gladson with 91 yards and three touchdowns on 11 carries, Kolten Gajewski with 29 yards and a touchdown and Kaden Gajewski with 27 yards. Other touchdowns came on a fumble recovery by Ben Reid and an interception by Radyn Schwartzkopf.
Nashville returns to action with a 1:00 game on Saturday the 27th at Carterville. This could be a tougher game for the Hornets as the Lions opened their season with a 43-0 win over Anna-Jonesboro.
