For what they believe to be a first in NMS Girls Basketball history, the Nashville Middle School Girls Basketball team finished their season undefeated with 14-0 record. The girls finished their season at home against Pinckneyville in the SIJHSAA Class M Regional Championship on Thursday, April 15th.

“I give credit to Pinckneyville for the high energy and competitiveness they showed at our game (that) night.” said Head Coach Tierney Moore, “We started out slow with some nervousness, but I had confidence that their fundamentals would pull through.”

“My 8th Graders really stepped up and made some big buckets for us when we experienced some foul trouble with other starters.  Overall, our girls worked hard and deserved to win.”

The game was close for the first half, ending with 6-7 during the first quarter before Nashville pulled ahead to end the half at 17-16. The girls went on to end the third quarter 26-18 before winning the game with a final score of 34-24. Top scorers for the game included Jaylee Aulds with 10 points, Belle Schmale and Emma Behrmann with 9 points each, and Emma Williamson and Ellie Bartling with 3 points each.

“Obviously this was not a typical season for us.” Coach Moore said, “We had to almost cut our schedule in half and are not able to advance to the State Tournament due to COVID restrictions.  Throughout all of these challenges, this group of young ladies persevered.  Not once did I hear a complaint about wearing a mask while playing.  They were overjoyed to be back on the court together.”

“They came to practice every day ready to work and learn.  My Assistant Coach (Ben Crawford) and I are lucky to be coaches in this town and school district.”
