Elizabeth A. “Betsy” Gillen

Elizabeth A. “Betsy” (Holbrook) Gillen, age 85, of Upper Arlington, Ohio died Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Born in Centralia, Illinois and raised in Nashville, Illinois, the daughter of Rollin S. and Florence (Riddle) Holbrook. Betsy received a B.S. degree in Education from Southern Illinois University in 1957 where she was a member of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorrority. Prior to having children, Betsy was an elementary school teacher and she later returned to education, teaching and directing the Covenant Presbyterian Church Preschool for more than 20 years.  She is survived by her children, Herbert J. Gillen, Shelli (Alan) Thompson, and Kristi Reynolds. Also survived by grandchildren, Sam (Madison) Thompson, Katie Thompson, Karlee Reynolds, Kortney Reynolds, Andrew Mollmann, Elizabeth Gillen, Herbie Gillen and Johnny Gillen and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Herbert E. Gillen, her parents and her beloved sister Nancy Burleyson.  Betsy was a member of Discover Christian Church and was previously a long-time member of Upper Arlington Church of Christ. Betsy enjoyed residing at Brookdale Trillium for the last two years.

Friends may call 1-3 p.m., Sunday, April 11th at DISCOVER CHRISTIAN CHURCH, 2900 Martin Rd., Dublin, Ohio 43017, where services will follow at 3 p.m., Sunday with Pastor Steve Murphy and Pastor Jim Brechbuhler officiating.
