Last Tuesday the Hornettes track team competed in the girls sectional meet held at Belleville Althoff. It was a two-team battle for the championship as Nashville finished with 145 points while the host squad took second with 134 points. Alton Marquette was the best of the other 11 teams but finished a distant third with only 47 points.
Nashville picked up many of their points in relay races. The team of Shelby Thorson, Karmen Reynolds, Talanie Kozuszek and Halle Rueter won the 4×100 relay in a time of 50.8 and the 4×200 relay in a time of 1:48.56. The 4X800 relay team of Daci Finke, Kali Heggemeier, Olivia Verges and Hailey Baugh finished first with a time of 10:52.7. Other first-place finishes for the Hornettes were Alyssa Cole in the discus with a toss of 31.16 meters, Emma Van Hise in the high jump with a height of 1.12 meters and Sophie Schubert in the pole vault with a height of 2.13 meters.
Second-place finishes went to the 4×400 relay team of Bailey Newman, Heggemeier, Olivia Verges and Baugh, Paityn Matecki in the triple jump, Angel Meyer in the pole vault and Baugh in the high jump. Third-place finishers were Kususzek in the 100, Newman in the 400, Van Hise in the 100 meter hurdles and Ruby Konkel in the discus. Fourth-place finishers were Kozuszek in the 200, Verges in the 1600, Van Hise in the 300 meter hurdles and Cole in the shot put. Fifth-place finishers were Reynolds in the 100 and 200, Meyer in the 100 meter hurdles and Matecki in the long jump.
