Du Quoin man killed in accident south of Nashville

A 28-year-old Du Quoin man has died after a two-vehicle accident involving a semi truck Tuesday morning.

According to Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger, Marcus D. Young was traveling south in a black Mercury vehicle on Route 127 near Mississippi Road south of Nashville at 6:34 a.m. when the vehicle struck a semi truck loaded with soybeans. The truck was entering a roadway from a private road located on the highway’s west side.

Styninger said the foggy conditions likely played a factor in the accident as “it appears neither driver saw the other seconds before the crash.”

The local driver of the semi truck reported no injuries. Young was pronounced dead on the scene by Styninger. He said the cause of death has been ruled as blunt force trauma, and the manner was determined to be an accident.

Other agencies on the scene included Washington County Ambulance Service, Nashville Fire and Police departments, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police. The Washington County Coroner’s office also took toxicology results for further routine testing.

Precision Towing and Gary’s Tire Towing were called to assist the NFD with heavy extrication at the scene.
