MARLENE KAHRE 

Marlene Kahre, 88 of Hoyleton, passed away at 5:04 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital in Centralia.  She was born on February 10, 1935 in Hoyleton, the daughter of Gustav and Emma Nolte Dries.  She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers; Eugene and Allen Dries, 3 sisters; Verena Sprehe, Annetta Reinkensmeyer and Marilyn Spenner.  She married Norman D. Kahre on June 8, 1957 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton.  Besides her husband of 65 years, she is survived by a sister- in- law Betty Kahre of Maryland Heights, MO, along with many nieces, nephews and close friends.

Mrs. Kahre was a graduate of Centralia High School.  She was employed by Sieglers, Hollywood Brands Candy factory and retired from the Community Trust Bank in Irvington.  After retirement, she and Norman contiuned to work side by side as custodians for the public school in Hoyleton, in addition to taking care of many lawns.  She was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton where she was baptized, confirmed and married.  She was an avid gardener raising many beautiful flowers and vegetables.  She became a Master Gardner after her retirement.  Marlene created many beautiful quilts and donated a quilt every year to the Hofbraufest quilt auction.  She enjoyed many forms of needle work along with making Christmas ornaments with Norman that they shared as gifts.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hoyleton with Rev. Nathan Wollenberg officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Friends may call one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.  Memorial contributions may be made to her church.
