NCHS Counselor’s Report

Explore Kaskaskia College Day: KC Explore Day is scheduled for Friday, March 24. Students can spend the day at KC to visit with faculty and explore classes and programs that interest them.  Financial aid will also be discussed.  The schedule will be as follows: 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m. – Breakfast & Check-In, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. – Welcome and Program Tours, 12:00 p.m. – Lunch, 12:30 p.m. – Optional Campus Tour. Scholarships: As we receive information on scholarships, they will be posted on the Counseling Office webpage at: https://sites.google.com/nashville-k12.org/scholarships  Some upcoming scholarships are:

LARRY PASZKIEWICZ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP –  Priority will be given to applicants planning to continue his/her education in agriculture. Applications are available on the Guidance page of the NCHS website.  Applications must be returned to the guidance office by March 17.

ARON HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP: AORN (Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses) Chapter 1402, the Southern Illinois Chapter. We are a non-for-profit organization and we offer a scholarship opportunity to graduating seniors entering the medical field. Favor is typically shown to nurses and specifically to those interested in perioperative nursing. However, we invite all individuals entering the healthcare field to apply for our scholarship. See the Guidance page of the NCHS website for the link to the 2023 Scholarship Application. Deadline is March 31.

HENEGHAN & ASSOCIATES’ SCHOLARSHIP: Applicant must plan to enroll in civil engineering or surveying.   Applications must be postmarked no later than March 31. More information and the application are posted on the Guidance Office page of the NCHS website.

SIU CREDIT UNION SCHOLARSHIP: Applicant or applicant’s legal guardian must be a SIU Credit Union member in good standing and maintain that membership status throughout the duration of the award to apply for the scholarship. Applications must be received March 31. The application is online at: https://siucu.org/about/scholarship/

MINORITY TEACHERS OF ILLINOIS SCHOLARSHIP: The MTI Scholarship Program encourages academically talented minority students to pursue careers as teachers at nonprofit Illinois preschool, elementary and secondary schools. For more information and to apply visit: https://www.isac.org/  The deadline to apply is March 31.

TRADESMEN COFFEE AND BREWING SCHOLARSHIP: Applicants must be a senior in high school planning to go straight into the workforce upon graduation into a skilled labor field or planning to attend a 2 or 4 year institution to receive a degree in a skilled trade field (engineering, mechanics, aircraft maintenance, etc.). The money may be used for clothing, tools or a training program. The application is available at Tradesmen Coffee and Brewing . The deadline to apply is March 31.

AMERICAN LEGION POST #110 CHILD OF A VETERAN SCHOLARSHIP: One $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to a NCHS senior. Applicants must be the child or grandchild of a veteran or active-duty personnel. Applications are available on the Guidance Office page of the NCHS website. The deadline to apply is March 31.

AMERICAN LEGION POST #110 TRADE CAREER SCHOLARSHIP:  A scholarship will be awarded to a NCHS senior. Applicants must be pursuing a trade career at a community college or trade school. Applications are available on the Guidance Office page of the NCHS website. The deadline to apply is March 31.

WASHINGTON COUNTY LODGE #55 A.F & M SCHOLARSHIP:  Open to NCHS seniors.  Applicants must be ranked in the upper 1/4 of the class after 7 semesters. Applications are available on the Guidance Office page of the NCHS website. The deadline to apply is March 31.

ACT Testing Dates:  The next ACT test with open registration is April 15.    Late registration is due by March 24.  Additional ACT testing dates for the year are June 10 and July 15.  Registration is typically due 5 weeks before the testing date.  Students may register at www.ACTStudent.org. Our high school code is 143-110.

SAT Testing Dates:  The next SAT test with open registration is May 6.  Registration is due by April 7.  Additional SAT testing date for the year is June 3.  Registration is typically due 5 weeks before the testing date.  Students may register at www.collegeboard.org.  Our high school code is 143-110.
