GARY A. KANIA
Gary A. Kania, age 65, of Du Bois, IL, passed away at 2:43 a.m., on Friday, March 17, 2023, in Pinckneyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Pinckneyville, IL.
Gary was born on October 16, 1957 Pinckneyville, IL, a son to Charles Jr. and JoAnna (Grzegorek) Kania. Gary was a farmer, a friend, proud uncle, brother, and a legend. He lived his life by two mottos, “that’s farming” and “whatever”. Gary spent most of his life on his family farm, working alongside his brother, Larry. Other than farming at Kania Brothers’ Farm, he was a coal miner. Gary enjoyed eating at the Mule Barn, Dr. Pepper, going to farm sales, and spending time with family and friends. Each year, Gary was well known to deliver watermelons from Sikeston to friends and neighbors. During his life, he spent quality time with his nieces, and they all have wonderful memories of his kindness and generosity. Most in the DuBois area have stories of Gary, most of which will continue living on. His loved ones, neighbors, and cousins are so thankful to have so many great memories that they will continue to tell future generations to keep Gary’s memories alive. He will forever be the one and only, “Uncle Gary”.
Survivors include his brother, Lawrence Kania of Pinckneyville, IL; two sisters, Linda Przygoda of Pinckneyville, IL and Jackie (Steve) Witges of Teutopolis, IL; three nieces, Natasha (Josh) Plumlee; Lauren Kania; Melissa ( Dylan) Halterman; Joseph (Jessica) Przygoda; Ryan (Ann) Witges; Aaron (Chelsey) Witges and Tyler (Kaitlin) Witges; eight great nieces, Izzabelle Plumlee, Haizlee Halterman, Carly Witges, Sawyer Witges, Marlow Witges, Hattie Witges, Alivia Przygoda, and Ava Przygoda; five great nephews, Huxtan Halterman, Brock Witges, Kade Witges, Sullivan Witges and Finley Witges.
