Mr. Gene Knolhoff of Hoyleton, IL departed this life in the Barnes/Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO on Friday, November 17, 2023, at 10:30 P.M. He had attained the age of 79 years, 4 months, and 22 days.

Gene was born on June 25, 1944, in Centralia, IL the son of Elmer and Anita (Brinkmann) Knolhoff.  He was united in marriage to Sondra Reves on June 20, 1964, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Nashville, IL and she survives his passing.

Gene served in the United States Army Reserves and was a lifelong farmer.  He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in New Minden, IL, where he held several positions within the church.  Gene was a trustee of the Hoyleton Rural Water Company and Hoyleton Township, and he was a past member of the New Minden Community Club. Gene’s true passion was farming, and he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Left to mourn his passing is his wife Sondra Knolhoff of Hoyleton, IL; 3 children, Beth Weihe and husband Bryan of Hoyleton, Rhonda Karmeier and husband Steven of New Minden and Douglas Knolhoff and wife Veronica of Hoyleton; 5 grandchildren, Kayla (Clinton) Michael, Jessica (Elliott) Engele, Mallory, Evan and Addison Knolhoff; 2 great grandchildren, Jace Michael and Emersyn Engele; a sister, Eileen Hoffman and husband Larry of Chesterfield, MO; sister-in-law, Diane Weihe of Nashville; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers-in-law, Mark Reves and Larry Weihe.

Funeral services will be held at the St. John Lutheran Church in New Minden on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 11 A.M. with Pastor Timothy Mueller officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Friends may call at the St. John Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 8 A.M. until the service hour.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
