An event this Saturday loolks to raise funds to assist a local business owner with medical and other expenses incurred during his battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease.
Rolin “Rocky” Killion is the owner of Killion’s Auto Service in Okawville. Rocky was diagnosed in January with ALS, also known as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease”. The 66 year old spent several months of doctor visits and tests before being diagnosed with ALS. There is no known cure for the disease.
He is currently receiving a series of infusions to try to help slow the progression of ALS, which for him began with slurred speech and difficulty swallowing. Other symptoms have also started to have an effect, such as difficulty breathing and weakening of other muscles. He still works when he’s not at appointments and if he’s feeling well enough, although now he mostly sticks to the office work.
Rocky opened Killion’s Auto Service in 1982, and his sons Bryon and Eric now work with him at the business. Rocky and his wife Kathy have five children and six grandchildren.
Sponsored by the Addieville Jaycees, the Rockin’ For Rocky benefit will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, August 24, at the Addieville Community Club. It begins with a Racin’ For Rocky 5K and Fun Run.
A kickball tournament is set for 10 a.m. along with a bags tournament.
Other activities during the fundraiser include a silent auction at 7 p.m., a live auction at 8:30 p.m.

The Natural Talent, a dynamite polka band all the way from Pulaski, WI, will be playing at the Knights of Columbus Hall in DuBois on Aug. 24 from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.
This young band with three sets of brothers is the band that played in January 2019. Bad weather played havoc when they were here last time, and several polka fans could not enjoy them. However, they made a huge impression with those in attendance, and they have been invited back once again to bring us great polka entertainment. Hope you can join us Aug. 24!
